Illegal Vote on Solar in North Carolina

When it comes to Democracy, you don’t always get your way.

But that’s just the nature of the beast.

Certainly I’ve had more than my fair share of being on the losing end of something I felt strongly about. But in those cases, you just keep fighting the good fight – honorably, and with integrity.

Sadly, however, that’s not how many of our elected officials do things.

Last week, after hearing testimony opposing a bill that would end the state of North Carolina’s renewable portfolio standard, State Senator Bill Rabon robbed citizens of an honest and fair hearing by refusing to properly count votes on a bill that ultimately ended up being passed.

Whether or not you’re a fan of renewable energy is irrelevant in this instance. Bottom line: This was an insult to democracy. And if Senator Rabon wants to kill the state’s renewable portfolio standard, he should seek to do so in a responsible and ethical way. Anything less is arrogant and just plain treasonous.

As far as I’m concerned, this was simply an illegal vote on solar in North Carolina.

Take a look:

Interestingly, this all went down just days after a North Carolina man was arrested and tackled to the ground by a police officer for drinking a can of iced tea in a parking lot. This isn’t a joke. This actually happened.

The whole thing was caught on tape, too. You can see it here.
