I’m a supporter of the second amendment.
This is not something from which I waver.
Any attack on the second amendment – whether big or small – is an exercise in tyranny. And I’ll have none of it.
That being said, I also have no patience for irresponsible gun owners who act as if firearms are toys and accessories instead of weapons. They are to be respected, not played with.
As well, I have no patience for the folks who claim that if all victims of gun violence were armed, they’d all be safe and alive today. That’s not true.
Sure, I certainly feel safer with a 9mm by my side. But even if all citizens were armed, not all would be safe. Case in point – Michael Brown.
What if?
Does anyone honestly believe that if Michael Brown had been armed, he’d be alive today? Not a chance.
Besides, black folks don’t get to legally carry guns you silly rabbit. Don’t you know? (This is meant to be sarcasm, by the way, so hold off on your hateful diatribe)
Let me ask you something. . .
What if all those folks in Ferguson who were demonstrating against the police showed up with assault rifles hanging off their shoulders. How many of them do you think would be alive today?
Now go back to March of this year. Remember all those folks who rushed down to Nevada to defend Cliven Bundy? Remember the massive display of citizen firepower? Remember the anger? Remember the rage?
How many of those people were pelted with rubber bullets or sprayed with tear gas? Better yet, how many news crews were attacked by police and had their equipment dismantled?
I know I’m not the only one who recognizes this inconvenient reality, yet I find mostly just liberal media sources shining a light on this. And these are the folks who would gladly criticize me for being an unapologetic gun rights advocate.
Why are we letting liberals, most of whom have little interest in protecting the second amendment, control this narrative?
You know, republicans have been kicking and screaming lately about how they want to open their arms and reach out to more black people. Here’s a great chance. And what do we hear? Crickets. This, my friends, is one of the reasons I abandoned the GOP years ago. They’re all full of shit.
The only rational voices I hear on this issue right now are coming from the same handful of libertarians who the mainstream media only calls on when they need to find a punching bag after a mall shooting.
Meanwhile, as both the mainstream liberal and conservative media each present their own warped version of what happened, nothing changes. It’s no safer today for the black folks of Ferguson than it was a week ago. And it’ll be no safer for them next week, next month or next year, either.
Yeah, that’s right. I’m bringing up race, because it’s necessary. At least for those who truly support the right of all citizens to keep and bear arms. And definitely for those who champion peace and liberty.
Now before I exhale and put this rant to bed, let me share with you one quick story.
Years ago, I invited a friend of mine (a black guy) to the shooting range. It’s out in the county and is often frequented by law enforcement. He laughed at me, then turned me down, saying simply, “nah, it’s not good to be a nigga with a gun when you’re around a bunch of white people and cops.”
I guess he was right.
