I know it’s difficult for folks to put politics aside sometimes. Particularly when personal beliefs and values are thrown into the mix. But the great thing about this country is that all of us have the right to address our elected officials without the threat of retribution.
Well, that’s how it’s supposed to work, anyway. But that’s not how it went down in Texas this week after Sarah Slamen gave her testimony to the Texas State Committee on Health and Human Services.
Slamen, a Texas native, decided to use her time to criticize the committee for what she believed to be a tragic violation of trust and responsibility. And while some folks may not agree with Slamen’s thoughts and views, she, as a United States citizen has every right to express them. But in the state of Texas, that doesn’t seem to matter.
About a minute into her testimony, Slamen was forcibly removed from the hearing by four state troopers. Why? Because the Senate committee didn’t want to listen to her testimony. Ah, Mao, Stalin and Hitler would be so proud!
