I’ll give the communists this…
They sure know how to throw a parade.
If you lived through the Cold War, you probably remember the extravagant parades the USSR would throw to showcase its military might.
Of course, those parades proved to be nothing more than charades, as the Soviet Union ultimately collapsed.
However, in the decades since, China has rushed in to fill the vacuum with elaborate, ostentatious, and even menacing demonstrations of its military progress.
Last week, which marked the 80th anniversary of the defeat of imperial Japan at the end of WWII, invited such a spectacle.
China delivered all of the pageantry the world has come to expect from communist states looking to challenge U.S. dominance.
Soldiers marched (10,000 of them), flags flew, and state-of-the-art weapons platforms rolled through Tiananmen Square — all as Chinese President Xi Jinping looked on approvingly, flanked by his two best friends, Vladimir Putina and Kim Jong Un.
That last part — the involvement of heads of state from Russia and North Korea — was maybe the most pointed piece of pageantry. And it didn’t go unnoticed.
Not by President Trump.
“Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America," Trump said on Truth Social.
Trump also pointed out another nagging irony…
Namely, that it was the United States that liberated China from Japan’s iron grip.
No doubt the atrocities Japan committed when it invaded China in the 1930s are notoriously horrific. And they only relented because the United States nuked imperial Japan out of existence at the end of WWII.
And yet, ironically, this whole spectacle was clearly staged to intimidate the very country to which modern China owes its very existence.
Or at least as president Trump put it, “We helped China very, very much."
That’s not all Trump was right about, either.
That is, China’s display of military force further justified Trump’s biggest and most vital national security initiative — the Golden Dome.
If you remember those old Soviet parades I mentioned earlier, then you probably remember seeing a lot of traditional weapons platforms like tanks and fighter jets.
That’s not what this was.
China’s parade was a true showcase of 21st-century weapons technology.
It included hypersonic missiles from its Yingji series.
Described as the PLA’s “strategic hammer,” these missiles fly faster than mach 5 (five times the speed of sound), and are delivered by glide vehicles that make them difficult to track and intercept.
They’re what China intends to hold the U.S. Pacific fleet at risk in a future war with the United States.
The parade also included China’s latest nuclear-capable ICBMs which are capable of striking anywhere on the planet.

Indeed, China already has at least 600 nuclear warheads in its arsenal and it’s adding 100 more each year. The country is now on pace to have 1,000 by 2030 (if not sooner) and 1,500 by 2035.
Drones and drone defense were another big focus.
Like the United States China has been developing “wingman” drones to support manned fighters and fight autonomously themselves.
China showcased its CH-9 surveillance drone as well. It can fly as high as 36,000 feet and stay skyborne for as long as 40 hours.
Unmanned underwater vehicles appeared, as well. They can be used to detect submarines, clear underwater mines, or carry out their own offensive operations.
China made a show of its counter-drone platforms, too.
Those included new high-power laser and microwave weapons designed to intercept drones and cruise missiles.
But again, this wasn’t all for show.
China developed these weapons to use them — and specifically to use them against us.
And that’s why President Trump is right to pursue the Golden Dome as a viable solution.
Indeed, the Golden Dome figures to be the biggest defense initiative since the Manhattan Project. And Congress has already made a $25 billion downpayment on its development.
Numerous defense contractors will be involved — but one will profit more than any other.

It shows Trump is every bit as serious as China is.
