Why AI Needs the Gem State

I just got back from Idaho.

And I’ll tell you something right now…

The trip wasn’t just a success.

It was a glimpse into the future.

Most Americans still think of Idaho as rugged mountains, trout streams, potatoes, old mining towns, and endless stretches of wilderness. And yes, Idaho is still all of those things.

But something else is happening there now.

Something enormous.

You see, Idaho is known as the Gem State.

And that’s not just some tourism slogan cooked up in a marketing office.

It’s earned.

Beneath those snow-capped mountains… beyond the rivers, canyons, and untouched wilderness… Idaho sits on a staggering concentration of natural wealth:

Gold. Silver. Zinc. Lead.

And something even rarer.

A gemstone so unique it exists in only two places on Earth — Idaho… and India.

The star garnet.

A mineral that, when struck by light, reveals a glowing, star-like pattern from deep within the stone itself.

Think about that.

A hidden star… locked inside rock… waiting to be revealed.

That’s Idaho.

A place defined by what lies beneath the surface.

But here’s what struck me as I walked the ground, toured the Friday mine, and saw this state up close again…

Idaho isn’t just a storehouse of yesterday’s wealth.

It’s becoming a launchpad for tomorrow’s.

Because now, layered on top of this vast mineral richness…

Is something entirely new.

Something far bigger than anyone realizes.

While I was visiting the legendary Friday gold mine and conducting research tied to NatGold and the coming tokenization revolution… I kept running into signs that Idaho is quietly becoming part of something much bigger…

America’s AI infrastructure supercycle.

That’s right.

Even Idaho is now being pulled into the AI data center network spreading across the United States like an industrial wildfire.

Think about that for a second.

The same state known for gold mines, timber, rivers, and farming is now seeing proposals for major AI-focused data centers and hyperscale digital infrastructure. Projects are being discussed from Boise to eastern Idaho as developers race to secure land, water, and — most importantly — power.

And that’s when the full force of the MoneyQuake hit me all over again.

Because what I witnessed in Idaho confirms exactly what I’ve been telling readers…

The MoneyQuake is powered by two conjoined twins.

Twin #1 is the Monetary Twin:

  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Hard assets
  • Tokenization
  • The global movement away from fiat fragility

That’s the side of the story I was researching at the Friday mine.

But Twin #2?

Twin #2 is industrial.

And it’s becoming one of the largest infrastructure booms in modern history.

  • AI data centers
  • Electric grids
  • Power generation
  • Cooling systems
  • Water infrastructure
  • Copper
  • Steel
  • Concrete
  • Natural gas
  • Nuclear
  • Transmission lines

By the way, even where I live in rural Maryland, AI data center transmission lines are being proposed and met with protests. These signs are everywhere in Carroll County, Maryland:

This is the physical skeleton of artificial intelligence.

And this build-out is accelerating at a pace that, frankly, borders on unbelievable.

According to recent reports, AI data center power demand has now surged to roughly 29.6 gigawatts.

To put that into perspective…

That’s approximately equivalent to the peak electricity demand of the entire state of New York.

Read that again.

The AI sector alone is now consuming enough electricity to rival one of the largest states in America.

And we are still in the early innings.

The scale of some of these planned AI campuses is almost difficult for the human mind to process.

One proposed Utah AI campus is expected to require up to 9 gigawatts of power — more than double the electricity usage of the entire state of Utah today.

Meanwhile, OpenAI-linked facilities in Texas are reportedly scaling toward the 1-gigawatt threshold. xAI’s “Colossus” facility has already become one of the largest AI training clusters on Earth.

Meta is discussing 5-gigawatt scale infrastructure.

SoftBank is reportedly exploring a staggering 10-gigawatt AI data center project in Ohio.

This is no longer “just tech.” This is industrial civilization-scale construction.

Call it the Industrial Revolution 4.0, 5.0, or whatever. This is the MoneyQuake in full bloom. And we are talking decades for this to play out.

And that’s why Idaho matters.

Because once places like Idaho begin getting pulled into the orbit of AI infrastructure…

You realize this isn’t a Silicon Valley story anymore.

It’s a national story. A continental story.

The AI build-out is now spreading into secondary and tertiary regions because the hyperscalers are running into bottlenecks elsewhere:

  • Power shortages
  • Water shortages
  • Land constraints
  • Grid congestion
  • Political resistance
  • Permitting delays

The hunt for power has become so intense that utilities themselves are restructuring around AI demand.

In fact, today’s utility mergers are increasingly being justified by the explosion in data center electricity consumption.

The International Energy Agency says global data center electricity demand is surging fast enough to materially reshape global energy markets over the next decade.

This is exactly why I keep hammering the same point…

AI is not just a software story. It is a hard asset story.

The market still largely views AI through the lens of apps, chips, and chatbots.

But the real bottleneck is increasingly physical.

Electricity.

Cooling.

Water.

Transmission.

Raw materials.

That’s why companies tied to power infrastructure, turbines, transformers, grid equipment, cooling systems, and energy generation have become some of the biggest winners of the AI era.

And standing in Idaho…

At the intersection of old-world mining wealth and next-generation AI infrastructure…

You can literally see the two twins of the MoneyQuake converging in real time.

Gold and compute. Resources and intelligence.

The old economy and the new economy fusing together into one gigantic macro supercycle.

That’s the story most of Wall Street still doesn’t fully understand.

But they will. Because eventually, the scale becomes impossible to ignore.

Oh, and by the way, as I was driving through the Nez Perce Reservation in the small remote town of Lapwai and saw this at the high school:

If you know, you know!

Get to the pickleball courts first…
