That’s Golden DOMES (Plural) and They’re Going to Cost Trillions

Missile defense is big money.

The Missile Defense Agency, which is responsible for America’s homeland defense and modernization efforts, already has an annual budget north of $10 billion.

And that doesn’t even count the full scope of U.S. short- and long-range air defense assets stationed around the world.

Now the GOP mega-bill working its way through Congress figures to add another $150 billion to the U.S. defense budget, scaling it beyond $1 trillion total.

That sum includes $25 billion specifically for President Trump’s Golden Dome missile shield. And that’s just the start.

Trump himself claimed the full cost of the Golden Dome would be $175 billion — but, frankly, there’s no way that’s accurate.

A sophisticated web of space and earthbound assets — sensors, launchers, interceptors, tracking satellites, communications, logistics, manpower, etc. — is going to cost much, much more than that.

The Congressional Budget Office puts the total sum 4–5 times higher, at $542 billion. And that’s just the cost for a limited space-based component that would only be capable of intercepting one or two ICBMs from a rogue nation like North Korea.

It’s going to cost magnitudes more to realize Trump’s vision of a missile shield capable of defending against dozens of advanced ICBMS, hypersonic missiles, and LEO glide vehicles.

Heck, even just defending the United States against rocket and mortar attacks with Iron Dome-style batteries would require more than 24,000 units and cost roughly $2.5 trillion.

So, truly, when it’s all said and done, the cost for this endeavor is likely to be 10 times bigger than the CBO estimates — in excess of $5 trillion. (And I’ve got the perfect stock to playit right here, if you’re interested.)

But now, here’s where things get really interesting…

It’s not just the United States getting serious about missile defense.

Europe is, too.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the precarious existence of NATO have woken Europe up to the risks they're now facing.

So they’re upping their game as well, laying plans and lining up capital for a Golden Dome of their own.

That is, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is now calling for a 400% increase in Europe’s air and missile defense budget.

“The fact is, we need a quantum leap in our collective defense,” Rutte said. “The fact is, we must have more forces and capabilities to implement our defense plans in full. The fact is, danger will not disappear even when the war in Ukraine ends.”

Indeed, Russia’s inability to conquer Ukraine outright has exposed its limitations as a military power. However, Vladimir Putin has invested heavily in advanced missile systems that could devastate Europe in the event of a conflict.

Furthermore, Russia’s economy is so heavily dependent on defense spending that it simply may not be able to demobilize at this point. Which is to say Russia will be in a wartime posture indefinitely — regardless of what happens in Ukraine.

That’s what Rutte means when he says the danger won’t just disappear.

“We see in Ukraine how Russia delivers terror from above, so we will strengthen the shield that protects our skies,” Rutte said. “Wishful thinking will not keep us safe. We cannot dream away the danger. Hope is not a strategy. So NATO has to become a stronger, fairer and more lethal alliance.”

Obviously, Russia’s close proximity to Western Europe — as well as Putin’s determined effort to conquer former Soviet satellite states — makes the continent even more vulnerable.

Europe is also slightly bigger than the United States, creating an extra 100,000 square miles to defend.

Given that, it’s fair to assume that if Europe is going to make an earnest effort to modernize its air defenses, it’s going to have to spend just as much as, if not more than, the United States.

That spending could come in increments. It could be spread out across individual projects spanning multiple countries. But it will all add up.

And as with Trump’s Golden Dome, most of that spending will end up in the pockets of U.S. firms. That’s because Europe simply doesn’t have the technology or the capacity to do it in-house, so to speak.

So I’d highly encourage you to check out my latest report on the Golden Dome and the company that I think stands to benefit more than any other.

It’ll tell you everything you need to know about this multi-trillion-dollar investment opportunity.

Fight on,
