In a world where environmental concerns have become omnipresent, the search for new, more efficient energy sources has become widespread.

While graphene has yet to become a household word, it’s certainly on its way. The new craze is boding exceptionally well for one company in particular: Lomiko Metals (TSX-V: LMR).

According to a press release on MarketWire, Lomiko expects to benefit from a $50 million funding project for Graphene Nanochem. Partnering with Graphene Labs, Lomiko has plans to “co-develop a vertically integrated supply chain that includes a secure supply of high-quality graphite, cost-effective and scalable processing, tight quality control and integration of graphene-based products in end-user products.”

A. Paul Gill, CEO of Lomiko, has hopes that the company will benefit dramatically from the $50 million funding of Graphene Nanochem.

“Recently, Graphene Nanochem has raised $ 50 million on the London, U.K. AIM,” Gill said in the press release. “We believe Lomiko and Graphene Labs are poised to benefit from tremendous interest in graphene. We are working on attracting a strategic investor to participate in our vertically integrated graphene business opportunities.”

Recently, the company has shown proof that recent tests of graphene characteristics have been extremely positive, with many samples showing 100% carbon purity, according to a press release on the company’s website.

The strong findings have served to do nothing but help Lomiko in both the short and long term, and they come at the perfect time given the interest in graphene amongst both scientists and investors.

A Focus on Graphene

For many people, graphene is somewhat of an elusive substance. Many don’t recognize what it’s capable of, which adds to the element of surprise when one finally discovers just how important graphene actually is.

Put simply, graphene is a carbon-based substance that actually happens to be slightly stronger than diamonds; it’s about as hard as such a substance can get. Perhaps one of the more interesting aspects of graphene, however, is that it is extremely light and airy.

With the thickness of just a single atom, it has the potential to conduct electricity more efficiently even than copper. It should stand to reason, then, why so many people are focusing on graphene as one of the most important substances out there right now.

Because graphene is graphite-based, it also happens to be a green substance. With so many people throughout the world looking towards ways to live a “greener” lifestyle, graphene is coming at the perfect time.

Lomiko is one of the leading companies in the world to work with the substance, utilizing it in a variety of different instances. Fuel cells, lithium ion batteries, and nuclear power can all benefit from the use of graphene. The idea of being able to charge one’s cell phone within minutes is certainly appealing, and with graphene, it may be possible.

An Investor’s Standpoint

As far as investors are concerned, graphene is more than worth the attention. The $50 million funding of Graphene Nanochem is a perfect example of how much people are paying attention to graphene in general, and it proves to be a good sign that investing in the substance would be a wise decision.

After all, graphene shows a great deal of potential not only in the tech industry, but in medicine and aviation as well. This is a form of technology that is just getting started, which has many people excited.

In a world where traditional metals and energy-creating compounds are being swapped out for those that are more green and better for the environment, graphene shows a great deal of promise.

The fact that it is graphite-based means that it is not only able to carry electricity in ways that the world has never seen before, but also that it is environmentally-friendly. It would be easy to view this as something that is attractive only to a certain group of people, but the fact is its potential uses cross a wide variety of industries.

As a result, investors across the board should be able to find quite a bit to love about graphene, and it appears as if Lomiko is planning on continuing its efforts to remain at the forefront of the industry.
