More Obama Lies
Falling on the Sword for Obama
As I watch government workers and officials, one after another, take the hot seat in Congressional hearings over mounting White House scandals, I wonder – are people like IRS’ Lois Learner and National Security Advisor Susan Rice being forced to cover for President Barack Obama – a president who seems incapable of telling the truth? Are they being threatened, or promised something?
I’m not saying they are, but I wonder.
There is a virtual revolving door in committee hearing rooms where witnesses come to defend the president’s honor, or to sit there, pleading the Fifth while they get raked over the coals by angry Representatives. All the while, Obama claims he didn’t know about any of the scandals, and in fact, he didn’t know about Fast and Furious until he read it in the newspaper. Either his aides are idiots, or he is a liar.
The latest lie was uncovered by NBC. The network revealed that Obama knew three years prior to saying, “If you like your health plan, you can keep it,” that it wasn’t true.
According to NBC, Obama knew “that 50 to 75 percent of the 14 million consumers who buy their insurance individually can expect to receive a ‘cancellation’ letter or the equivalent over the next year because their existing policies don’t meet the standards mandated by the new healthcare law. One expert predicts that number could reach as high as 80 percent.”
I watched Obama spokesman Jay Carney do the Potomac Two-Step around the issue during a press briefing Tuesday, claiming people can keep their health care, and the president wasn’t lying. The reporters wouldn’t let up though, citing the fact that already a million people have had their insurance canceled because it didn’t comply with government standards. Carney said Americans can keep their health insurance, but it must exactly comply with Obamacare standards. Reporters made the point “that’s not what the president promised.” Even liberal House Democratic Leader Steny Hoyer said this week, Obama should have been “more precise.” I am a former press secretary, and I would never continue to work for someone who constantly had me spin to the point I was lying. I don’t know how he sleeps at night.
Who is Obama’s patsy on this one?
Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who is either incompetent, or a victim of being forced to defend the roll-out of a system that wasn’t ready to launch. She said the president once again, “didn’t know” about the problems with the Affordable Care site before launch.
Then we have Benghazi, where Susan Rice did the Sunday morning circuit claiming the attack was all about the anti-Muslim video. It has been proven without a doubt since then, Benghazi was a planned attack. The Obama Administration had been warned about it well in advance, and there were repeated requests to re-locate the now-slain ambassador and improve security. 60 Minutes did a big story on this issue this week, further exposing the truth about what the Obama Administration knew. So why did Susan Rice and Hillary Clinton say the Administration didn’t know? It’s a fact, they did know. But people continue to fall on the sword for Obama.
The most recent Obama denial is the National Security Agency (NSA) spying on world leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Obama said, “he didn’t know,” of course. And while there are differing opinions if this should be happening, some elected officials from both sides seem to agree Obama “should have known.” True to form, Obama also didn’t know the NSA was spying on it’s citizens.
One of the most disturbing breaches of public trust involves the targeting of conservatives by the IRS. Much like Fast and Furious, the President of the United States found out about this by reading the morning paper, too.
As someone who has worked for a U.S Senator and Congressman, I don’t believe for a second he found out this bombshell through his morning “clips” as we call them. Someone would be fired just for not telling him. No politician wants to look like a fool because of staff incompetence – nothing makes them more furious.
As a result of the IRS scandal, IRS Commissioner Steven Miller resigned, and IRS official Lois Learner appeared in front of the House Oversight Committee to feel the wrath of the People. And while she invoked her Fifth Amendment rights, she is still lambasted by the public and elected officials. But I’m now wondering – did she do anything wrong, or is she just another one of Obama’s casualties?
What is it about Obama that inspires such loyalty?
Are people really willing to be publicly demonized to save face for someone else?
Are they promised a lofty position, a raise?
I guess it’s possible all of these people are either corrupt or inept, but I don’t think it’s possible for a president to be in the dark in all of these situations.
Or, are they being intimidated?
Government intimidation is not above this Administration and government in general.
Just recently a Washington Times reporter, Audrey Hudson, had her home ransacked by Maryland State Police and Federal Agents, who seized private reporting records of the award-winning investigative journalist. Hudson had written a series of articles revealing problems of the Homeland Security Department of Federal Air Marshals. The early-morning raid was justified under a warrant to search for unregistered firearms. The warrant did not specify securing any private notes, or the documents she obtained by the Freedom of Information Act (FIOA).
This likely unconstitutional seizure of records is not only to intimidate Hudson, but also sources from coming forward. It’s scare-tactics to purse the lips of whistleblowers.
Rolling Stone’s Michael Hastings was another journalist who claimed government officials intimidated him for his writings. The Rolling Stone reporter and book author was critical of the military and Obama. Hastings said a military staffer threatened his life, saying, “We will hunt you down and kill you if we don’t like what you write.” Hastings was driving a car which was traveling fast. After two explosions, the car crashed and Hastings was killed. I’m not saying the government is to blame, but it’s a widely reported theory.
Of course we have the National Park Service telling rangers to “make life as difficult as possible” during the shutdown. They kicked an elderly couple out of the house they owned because it was on federal land, blocked veterans from visiting open-air monuments, and even put tourists under house arrest at the Old Faithful Inn while the Old Faithful was going off so they couldn't see.
NPS Director Jonathan Jarvis sat in front of a Congressional Committee, non-wavering and red-faced. My reaction was to condemn him for his arrogant answers, but now I have pause for thought that maybe Director Jarvis was strong-armed into not giving the full-truth, and took lashes for the Administration because he had been warned.
I have no proof that Director Jarvis and the others are under threat of some sort by the Administration - it’s simply a hunch. None of them knew which subordinate was at fault, and of course the president and his Administration knew nothing, as usual. It all seems a bit too convenient, and too common. In the Obama Administration, complicated plots of tyranny seem to happen, but no one knows anything.
Death threats, cover-ups, targeted audits, and spying on and strong-arming average citizens – this isn't the America any of us recognize. I’m not saying Obama is personally responsible for all of this, but a leader sets a tone. They hire people to manage things – people who are willing to do their bidding. And as Obama likes to say referring to his own responsibilities, “The buck stops here.”
