The Perfect Retirement Plan

Good fortune found Charlie Simmons in 2014…

Living the good life in a beachfront condo he picked up in 2011 for about $90,000, Charlie unloaded his small retirement retreat for $625,000 last year.

Interestingly, he didn’t even have it on the market. But his former broker knew of a minor celebrity that was looking for a place similar to what Charlie owned.

After the exchange of a few emails and a quick personal visit from the interested party, Charlie was on his way to landing a huge profit on a home he never intended to sell.

After all, life’s good in Cabo. Why would you ever want to move?

Living the Good Life

Charlie typically starts his day on his ocean-view deck, sipping his morning coffee and reading the newspaper.

cabocaboHe then takes a walk on the beach and picks up some breakfast from a local restaurant that serves homemade tortillas, fresh salsa, and eggs from the couple’s very own layers they raise at their home just a few miles away.

Charlie tells me you haven’t lived until you’ve had an egg that went directly from the coop to the plate.

Although Charlie’s retirement is modest, he really can afford a very comfortable life in Mexico. Eating out every morning is so cheap that it’s not even worth his time to cook for himself — although his maid, who comes in six days a week, is always eager to cook him a solid home-cooked dinner.

Teressa is her name, and for an absolute bargain, she cleans, cooks, and runs errands for Charlie. Not that he doesn’t have plenty of time to run errands himself — but this is his retirement, and he prefers spending his time with other expats and locals, swimming in their custom-built pools, fishing on private charters, or just sitting around playing cards all day while nursing a few beers and noshing on pistachios and dried mango.

So even before he got the extremely generous offer on his condo, Charlie really wanted for nothing. This former accountant from Passaic, NJ was living the good life.

Your Own Slice of Heaven

It was no accident that Charlie picked this particular spot in Cabo.

After doing a fair bit of research, he realized that Cabo was on its way to becoming a hot spot for celebrities, retirees, and folks who simply wanted second homes outside of the U.S. — where their money went further and luxury could be had for pennies on the dollar.

Of course, while Charlie did get in at a good time, Cabo’s still hopping. And it certainly remains an ideal location for retirement or a second home.

Fortunately for Charlie, he made a pretty penny on the sale of his condo. But he didn’t leave this retirement paradise. What would be the point?

Nope, he simply traded his small condo on the beach for a larger condo on the beach. This one had some extra amenities, too, such as his own private garage, a private putting green, tennis courts, a car wash, and a 24-hour doorman.

Now, while Charlie was fortunate enough to get in on a great deal back in 2011, there are still plenty of deals just like his waiting to be had.
